Programme
United had several trialists in their starting line up in the form of Australian Goalkeeper Adam Federici, Polish Left Back Tomas Rzasa and former Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Chris Bart-Williams, who was capped at England Youth, Under Twenty-One level and "B" and trained with the full England squad but never played in a full England team, and Steve Guppy was given another chance to prove himself. With Lucas Radebe and Clarke Carlisle in central defence there were mostly young players to make up the starting XI. Andy Keogh got them off to a good start with a goal after ten minutes and Jamie McMaster and Tomas Rzasa added to that lead in the twenty-fifth and thirty-fifth minutes as United asserted their authority. Grant pulled one back for the home side three minutes before the interval. United rang the changes at half-time with Grenoble trialists Pascal-Dominique Gourville replacing Henry McStay at right back and Marna Triori coming on at left back for Tomas Rzasa. Ten minutes into the Second half Jamie McMaster got his second and Craig Liddle got a consolation goal for Darlington. Simon Johnson replaced Andy Keogh after an hour and five minutes before full-time Jamie Winter came on for Brenton Leister.
